My Story
I grew up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I learned early on about the power of resilience and the immense potential Africa holds. It was clear to me even then that the continent had incredible opportunities, but also significant challenges that needed to be navigated thoughtfully. With a passion for business and development, I pursued a B.Com in Finance & Marketing, followed by an MBA at Oxford Brookes University. These experiences gave me the tools to step confidently into the global stage.
Over the years, I rose through the ranks at companies like Coca-Cola and Heineken. I built a reputation for thriving in complex environments - turning around declining markets, managing diverse teams across continents, and negotiating multimillion-dollar partnerships. What I came to realize was that my strength lay in aligning global ambitions with local realities in ways that drove both profitability and sustainability.
As my career progressed, I noticed a common pattern. Many global companies wanted to succeed in Africa but found themselves struggling with the same issues - navigating unfamiliar markets, managing compliance and ethics, and building strong, lasting partnerships with local stakeholders. Despite their resources, many lacked the nuanced understanding and strategy required to thrive in Africa's unique and dynamic business environments.
This became especially clear during my time at Heineken, when I was tasked with repairing a fractured relationship with Coca-Cola. Trust had been eroded, and the future of the partnership was uncertain. I knew that if we could rebuild the connection, there was enormous potential for both companies. Through careful negotiation and strategic alignment, we not only renewed the partnership for five years, but also secured millions in investments and set a bold 6% annual revenue growth target. That experience taught me something deeper - it wasn’t just about fixing relationships. Success in Africa demanded cultural sensitivity, ethical leadership, and a relentless focus on execution.
I’ve also seen how daunting Africa can appear to companies unfamiliar with its complexities. In boardrooms, I’ve heard the same frustrations time and again. “We want to grow in Africa, but where do we start?” Some worry about compliance risks, others about finding the right local partners. Even companies already established on the continent face challenges in sustaining growth and operating ethically.
It was during a pivotal meeting with a global leadership team that I had my epiphany. As I outlined a strategy to rebuild trust and drive profitability in one of Africa’s key markets, I watched the transformation happen in real time. Board members who had been skeptical leaned forward, nodding. Executives who felt overwhelmed started asking thoughtful questions. It wasn’t just their plans that shifted - it was their mindset. In that moment, I realized my mission: to help global leaders see Africa not as a risk, but as an incredible opportunity.
With this clarity, I began developing a structured approach to support boards and executive teams. First, I focus on aligning boards around a shared understanding of Africa’s opportunities and challenges, ensuring clarity on goals and expectations. Then, I work directly with CEOs, helping them uncover untapped potential and inspiring fresh perspectives. From there, I mentor executive teams through strategy development, using data, insights, and a deep understanding of local markets. Finally, I stay engaged during execution, offering ongoing guidance, connections, and mentorship to ensure long-term success.
Since launching this mission, I’ve had the privilege of advising organizations seeking to expand their footprint in Africa. As CEO of the Africa Resource Centre, I built governance structures, forged strategic partnerships, and secured grants to strengthen public health systems across the continent. I’ve also mentored senior leaders, helping them align their strategies with Africa’s realities. Whether connecting multinational corporations with local partners or guiding companies through regulatory landscapes, my goal has always been the same: to create win-win solutions that drive growth and leave a positive impact.
Of course, there have been challenges along the way. Some executives resist change, clinging to preconceived notions of how to operate in Africa. But with patience, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to their success, I’ve helped them reframe their approach. Over time, these companies have seen real results - increased revenue, expanded market share, and partnerships that reflect their values.
Today, I’m proud to serve as a trusted advisor to some of the world’s most influential companies. Together, we’ve transformed how boards and executives view Africa - not as an enigma, but as a landscape of boundless opportunity. Through my guidance, businesses have not only expanded their footprints but have done so ethically and sustainably, making a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.
This journey has taught me that true leadership isn’t just about ambition. It’s about bridging gaps, empowering others, and creating solutions that stand the test of time. For companies looking to unlock Africa’s potential, I offer more than expertise - I offer a partnership in achieving success.
